The 3 essentials of skate care

1) Store your skates like you love them

When you’re done skating, let your boots breathe. Don’t leave them sealed in a bag—moisture can soften adhesives and shorten the life of your skates.

Do this:

• Take skates out of your case/backpack ASAP after sessions
• Store indoors, away from heat, cold, and direct sun (no trunks!)
• If they get wet: loosen laces, pull tongues forward, and air-dry naturally (no heaters)
  

Revel tip: stuff the boot lightly with paper for a few hours to help it keep its shape while drying.

2) Give your bearings a real “spa day”

If your roll starts sounding crunchy or feeling slow, your bearings are asking for attention. Bearings need to be cleaned first and lubed second—lubing dirty bearings traps grit and speeds wear.

Quick routine:

• Remove wheels and bearings
• Clean with a proper bearing cleaner (or mineral spirits in a pinch)
• Dry completely before lubricating (this part matters)
• Reassemble and roll smooth again
  

When to replace: if they won’t spin freely and quietly even after cleaning/lube, it’s time.

3) Keep your boots clean, fresh, and ready

No matter the boot material, the best habit is simple: keep them dry.
